We talk to Co-founder and Fashion/Features Director of online magazine Dalliance, Laura Woods. Viparo are supporters of young and ambitious achievers, and at 16 years old, Laura has definitely got a career in fashion!
What made you start your own magazine?
Jasmine (age 19) from England came to me with the idea as we both have fashion blogs and immediately I was all for it, having wanted to work in the fashion magazine industry ever since I was young. Its not a full time job. I have to manage working on it amongst completing school work, interning, blogging, work, social and family time!
Who is the Dalliance reader?
The Dalliance reader is someone who has fallen in love with everything fashion, and is interested in all aspects of it as a whole.
What are your goals with the magazine?
Just to continue with what we are doing; hopefully transfer to print rather than online soon; and work with stylists, fashion brands, models and photographers in editorials whom we admire. Also to help aspiring stylists, photographers and writers get their foot in the door of the fashion industry.
You've got a team that help make Dalliance what it is, what is the brainstorming process like with coming up with each issue?
We have so many amazing people who contribute as little or as much as they want. They sometimes would come to us with an article idea, or we would assign them something to write. Jasmine and I run the magazine together, and we decide on everything that goes in the magazine, as well as themes/editorials/articles etc but we couldn’t do it without all the people, of all ages around the world whom contribute to the content.
Who would be your ultimate photographer and subject that you would dream to feature in Dalliance?
My dream photographer to shoot for Dalliance Magazine would be Cass Bird, or Greg Kadel. My dream model would be Kasia Struss, Hanne Gaby or Daria Werbowy (a girl can dream, right?)
Who are your favorite designers, both locally and internationally?
Internationally I love Alexander Wang, Haider Ackermann, Proenza Schouler, Acne, Celine, Rag and Bone and Isabel Marant. Locally I love Zimmerman, Ksubi, Willow and Dion Lee.
And your favorite bloggers?
I love so many blogs from Aussie girls-such talent! From Australia I love Amanda Shadforth from oraclefox.com, Alexandra Spencer from 4thandbleeker.com and Brydie Mack from wolfcubchronicles.blogspot.com. Internationally I love Camille Charriere from camilleovertherainbow.com
Your top 3 magazines?
Russh Magazine, Harpers Bazaar, Shop til you Drop and Elle (I can’t decide between them!) I am so eager to try some more international magazines!
Who do you look to for inspiration, any fashion icons?
So many! Anja Rubik, Emmanuelle Alt, Elin Kling, Erin Wasson, Pip Edwards, Christine Centenera and Kate Moss (ironic, I know!)
And finally, what fashion trend are you loving at the moment?
Grunge! Never thought Hedi Slimane would turn me but I am loving all things checked, ripped denim and band t-shirts.
