White Summer

By: Jelena Ardalic

Once upon a time, all we saw on the eagerly anticipated spring/summer runway shows was colour, frills and floral. At the previous spring/summer shows, white and black was considered boring – especially here in Australia as us Aussies are known for our relaxed and vibrant outfits.

This summer, whites are no longer the colour of choice for summer brides only.

Head-to-toe white was a key look on the spring/summer 2013/2014 runways – and especially for our very own Aussie designers.

Models at the Manning Cartell, Toni Maticevski and Bec & Bridge shows this year were shown dressed in full white, proving that this summer, we will be having a white Christmas.

Head-to-toe white is no longer considered a tacky fashion taboo championed by Drew Barrymore’s character in 90s flick Never been kissed as looks were shown in elegant, minimalistic, clean-cut white styles, to draped white-on-white layering looks. Although, one particular way to wear white remained constant on the runways – sheer white.

Sheer white garments are the perfect choice to make for your summer wardrobe as they are lightweight, timeless and on-trend.

A sheer-white shirt paired with a white skort is a staple look to have this summer as it can take you from sport-luxe chic, to a classy and clean evening outfit.

For now, let’s try channel our inner innocence because white is here to stay this summer.
